Do you think of yourself as an influencer? You are – whether or not you realize it you have a sphere of influence that is different from everyone else. You have the ability to reach an audience that no one else can reach. You have the unique ability to change your part of the world – if you decide to utilize it. How? Read on…
A Brand New Page, A Brand New Year
I love the first day of a new year! Why?
It’s a completely blank page.
I see a clean, new chapter of my life stretching out endlessly ahead of me.
It’s full of promise and no failures – yet.
To me, it’s the opportunity to become the best me I can be and to level up in all areas. The first thing I do in the morning of January 1 is to go over all of my stats, goals, and income for the last year. I like to see what my percentages were and if I increased or decreased in any area. Did I meet my goals? How close did I come??
Basically my 2019 self is in competition with my 2018 self.
And really, isn’t that how it should be? Is there any benefit to competing with other bloggers in your niche? Their blogs are different, they reach a different audience, they have a difference demographic…
Honey, nobody can be you but you! Nobody can say things like you can – nobody can teach what you teach. You are an individual with individual life experiences. You’re going to attract a certain audience. A certain audience that needs YOU to be YOU.
It’s what you were born for.
I know that lately people are saying that we shouldn’t focus on our page views and numbers – and to a degree I understand and agree with that… to a degree.
This fall I had kind of a revelation that changed my thinking, my work, and my life.
Your Sphere of Influence
Sphere of influencea field or area in which an individual or organization has power to affect events and developments.
You see, I realized that I reach over half a million people every single month – maybe more. Those are just numbers, they are real live people like you and like me… with hopes, dreams, sorrows, and needs. Instead of looking at those “numbers” as what I needed to have a successful blog I began to look at those “numbers” as people that I had the opportunity to encourage, lead, inspire, and speak into their lives.
Maybe I won’t make a huge difference but at least I can make a lot of little differences that add up.
Because of my spiritual beliefs it’s important to me to feel that I am a positive force for good in the world. Realizing that I have been given the equivalent of a 500,000 member congregation literally changed everything about the way I think and the way I do things.
How many people in this world can say that they have the opportunity to change the lives of 1500 or 15,000, or 150,000 or 1,500,000 people every single month?
You and I can.
Today I want to encourage you to think of your blog as a real career and a life calling. It’s not just about making money – although that part is nice. You are a positive force for good in this ugly world. You and I have the opportunity to make it a better, more happy, more beautiful place.
Isn’t that exciting? Amazing? Doesn’t it – Blow. You. Away?
Influencers Have A Unique Responsibility
That opportunity comes with responsibility – but it’s one I think you like. It’s your responsibility to grow your influence bigger and bigger and reach more and more people with the value you have to give them.
Not just a new recipe.
Not just a technique for losing weight.
Not just an idea for a pretty entryway.
The value you carry inside you – the ability to encourage and uplift is more important than any recipe you could share or any parenting advice you could give. The chance to change a life when you share your story and your thoughts, successes and failures, the real you on your blog and in your sphere of influence is a superpower that’s unique to influencers like us.
Knowing the Needs in Your Sphere of Influence Gives You Confidence
I don’t know about you but believing that made all the difference to me. I am not an extrovert by any means. To be honest, the idea of talking to people I don’t know scares the crap out of me.
And asking them to buy a course, a book, or a product I’ve created?
No. Freaking. Way.
But… knowing that I have something of value to give them makes it different. If people have a problem that I have the potential solution to it’s not bothering them when I offer it to them.
I am giving them the opportunity to change their lives.
So. Bottom line. Don’t be afraid to talk about your blog, your coaching program, or your product. Once you have identified someone as being your avatar — in your sphere of influence — needing something that you have to give — then they deserve the chance to accept it or refuse it.
And that doesn’t reflect on you or your products or your value.
You’ve got something that someone needs – it’s up to you to expand your sphere of influence until you find them.
